How to wear belts

I love belts and have accumulated a nice collection over the years :from ribbon to metal to vintage and classic leather styles! I can vouch on their ability to take an outfit from blah to fav in seconds! They make my jean skirt and loose cardigan combo look cool, fun and polished!

Belts are HUGE for fall/Winter 2011 they are a must when paired with the heavily textured looks for the upcoming season.I bought this chunky sweater and the belt makes it go from potato sac to fav find in an instant.

They where featured in runway looks placed all over... from just under the breast adding some for some oomph to the models ( I'm not crazy about oomph personally since I'm nursing) to pulling in waists to enhance a feminine figure, or slung haphazardly at hips to give shape to formless frocks and mod tunics (but If you have a belly avoid this).

Waist Cinching Belts

Belts placed just above your bellybutton is the place most flattering to enhance a womanly figure.
PLEASE Ignore the talk of 80s flashbacks and avoid any tacky corset lingerie inspired ones. Wearing a belt is all about enhancing femininity. With a wide belt around the smallest part of your waist, you’re slimming and emphasizing your curves in a tasteful subtle way.

for waist enhancing the thicker the better ! note that belts with large square buckles look best in the same tone as the band, or in clunky, muted metals.
In materials, you’re looking for a belt that can stand up to all your bending and sitting. Solid leathers, reinforced layers of satin, animal skins, and thick, wide elastic bands make for the best waist cinching belts. Anything flimsy or too cheap will fold and crease at your midsection, or hang with unflattering looseness from your body.

Tip : When wearing an oversized or statement belt keep you other Accessories Simple

When sporting a large mid-waist belt, it’s critical that you keep in mind the visual impact of this substantial accessory. resist the urge to add too many accessories (piles of bangles ,large earrings and other bling )keep the belt as your focal point ,too much can look CRAZY.

Use your mid-waist belt to cinch inch in the clean lines of a pencil skirt or dress, add shape to airy tunic with a waist-loving belt...or pull in that roomy shirt dress or classic trench.

The waist-high belt can be such a gorgeous statement piece by trading buckles for bows, and typical leather straps for elastics, silky sashes, and bands of fabric. With these funky belts, kimonos can get shaped by neo-obis and in animal print this belts can add a "subtle" trendy punch for the animal print shy gal while creating fusions of style that are always feminine.

Empire Waist Belts

Belts placed just below the bust line require very few rules: keep it small, keep it simple, keep it subtle and keep it cute. Opt for thin belts in colors that contrast but work with your outfit, and chose posh patent, chic alligator, soft suede or a simple, perfect bow-tied ribbon.

Hip-Slung Belts

Like the waist-cincher belt, the hip hugging belt draws attention to curves.... they can help give shape to a tunic pull in a shapeless dress. I loved this cute look during pregnancy worn with a tunic and a maxi skirt.I got the Idea from naomi watts : )
